Unbroken (Movie Tie-in Edition)

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The incredible true story of survival and salvation that inspired two major motion pictures: Unbroken (2014) and Unbroken: Path to Redemption (coming soon). Louis Zamperini was an incorrigible delinquent as a child. He channeled his defiance into running as a teenager ... and discovered a prodigious talent that propelled him to the Berlin Olympics. The athlete then became an airman when World War II broke out. Against all odds, Zamperini survived the crash of his Army Air Forces bomber into the Pacific Ocean. When pushed to his limits, Zamperini would respond to desperation with ingenuity, suffering with hope, resolve, and humor, and brutality with defiance. Yet, upon his heroic return home after the war, Louie's willpower was put to the ultimate test as he battled PTSD, struggled to come to terms with the injustices that had been done to him, and was set on the path of redemption by a chance encounter with famed reverend Billy Graham. Unbroken is an unforgettable testament to the human mind, body, and spirit, vividly brought to life by Seabiscuit author Laura Hillenbrand.Hailed as the top nonfiction book of the year by Time magazine • Winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for biography and the Indies Choice Adult Nonfiction Book of the Year award To enjoy this book, you don't need to be a sports fan or a war history buff—all you need is a passion for great storytelling.”—Rebecca Skloot, author of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

Reviews of Unbroken (Movie Tie-in Edition)

Alternately stomach-wrenching, anger-arousing and spirit-lifting—and always gripping.

. . .virtually everything about Zamperini is filtered through her capable yet rather denatured voice, and we don’t really hear him.

Here is the story that few PoW books have bothered to tell: of a man struggling to escape an inescapable past...Hillenbrand marches second world war literature right back into the spotlight.

Considering that Hillenbrand has had enough time to go through the details and highlights of his life story, one cannot help but wonder why Unbroken seem to have fallen short in a few important aspects about her subject.
