"UNLESS someone like you..cares a whole terrible lot..nothing will get better..it's not." Long before saving the earth became a global concern, Dr. Seuss, speaking the Lorax through his character, warned against mental progress and the danger it posed to the natural beauty of the earth. His classic ... cautionary tale is now available for Arbor Day, Earth Day, and every day in an irresistible mini-edition, perfect for backpack or briefcase.

Catch! calls the Once-ler.
He lets something fall.
It's a Truffula Seed.
It's the last one of all!
You're in charge of the last of the Truffula Seeds.
And Truffula Trees are what everyone needs.
Plant a new Truffula. Treat it with care.
Give it clean water. And feed it fresh air.
Grow a forest. Protect it from axes that hack.
Then the Lorax
and all of his friends
may come back.
This is a great book to introduce themes of environmental responsibility to young children in a non-threatening way. Through the use of imaginary places, people, and things Dr. Seuss manages to teach great lessons without speaking directly about issues the children may be experiencing themselves.
From the beginning, I was drawn into the flight of the brown barbaloots, swomee swans, hummingfish and their unlikely guardian, the Lorax himself. In the end, I even found myself pitying the Onceler.
While the illustrations and entertaining creatures in The Lorax will appeal to young children, the environmental message will resonate more with older children and young teens.
Dr. Seuss books have always been loved by kids and this version was no different, the children paid attention to the illustrations and the rhymes and created there own creatures with paint and pencils, We also looked at rhyming words and rhythm.
