#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERA REESE WITHERSPOON x HELLO SUNSHINE BOOK CLUB PICK"I was a massive fan of Jojo Moyes. Her characters are so absolutely compelling. . It's such a great narrative of personal strength and it really captures how books bring communities together." –Reese WitherspoonFrom the ... author of Me Before You, set in the Depression-era America, a breathtaking story of five extraordinary women and their remarkable journey through the mountains of Kentucky and beyond. So when a call goes out for a women's team to deliver books as part of the new traveling library of Eleanor Roosevelt, Alice enthusiastically signs on. The leader, and soon the greatest ally of Alice, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman who has never asked permission from a man for anything. They will be joined by three other singular women who become known as Kentucky's Packhorse Librarians. What happens to them—and to the men they love—becomes an unforgettable drama of loyalty, justice, humanity and passion. These heroic women do not want to be cowed by men or convention. And while facing all sorts of dangers in a landscape that is sometimes amazingly beautiful, sometimes brutal, they are committed to their job: bringing books to people who have never had one, armed them with facts that will change their lives. Based on a true story rooted in America's past, The Giver of Stars is unparalleled in scope and epic in storytelling. Funny, heartbreaking, fascinating, it's destined to become a modern classic—a richly rewarding novel of women's friendship, true love, and what happens when we reach beyond our grasp of the great beyond.

Moyes (Still Me) stereotypes her antagonists a bit, but provides tremendous warmth among the librarians and centers their perspectives thoroughly. There’s plenty of drama, but the reader’s lasting impression is one of love.
