Last year, Annabel was "the girl who has it all"—at least that's the part she played in the TV commercial for Kopf's Department Store. This year, she's the girl who doesn't have anything: no best friend because Sophie dropped her, no peace at home since her older sister became anorexic, and nobody to... sit with at lunch. Until she encounters Owen Armstrong. Tall, dark, and obsessed with music, Owen is a reformed bad boy with a commitment to Just telling the truth. With Owen's help, perhaps Annabel can confront what happened She and Sophie stopped to be friends the night.

Dessen’s characterizations are glib, each metaphor and major point made explicit. Not deep, but absorbing and enjoyable.
For me, this book was about the real thing! How issues are actually dealt with, relationships formed and family ties strengthened, and not like your usual OMG teenager drama!
Just Listen is a book that teenage girls should read either before or when they're in high school so they get a sense of who they really are and how to stay happy, even when others are trying to get them down. It's a book that people will enjoy and want to read others by Sarah Dessen.
Every so often you'll come across a new author and be blown away, instantly eagerly awaiting their next book. This is how I felt when I finished this book - I wanted more, and I wanted it now.
